Electric scooters in Ireland — FAQs

Are electric scooters road legal in Ireland?

Since 20 May 2024, e-scooters can be used on Irish roads if they meet the legal spec: maximum 400W, 20 km/h and 25 kg, CE-marked with lights, brakes and a bell. Higher-powered performance scooters exceed these limits and are intended for private-land use only.

Do I need a licence or insurance for an e-scooter in Ireland?

No — road-legal e-scooters need no licence, tax or insurance, but riders must be 16 or over, use cycle lanes or roads rather than footpaths or motorways, and cannot carry passengers.

Which electric scooter is best for commuting?

Lightweight foldable models like the Riceel R70, the KuKirin A1 and the KuKirin G2 Pro are ideal for daily commuting. The G2 Max suits longer runs, while the G4 and Rovoron R7 Lite are built for off-road and performance riding.

Can I buy an electric scooter through the Cycle to Work Scheme?

No — the Cycle to Work Scheme covers bicycles and e-bikes only, so it cannot be used for electric scooters. Our electric bike range is scheme eligible if you would like to use it.

Where can I see electric scooters in Ireland?

At our Dublin showroom, Unit 19B, Fashion City, Dublin 24 (D24 YT68), where you can see and compare the full range in person.

Do you deliver electric scooters across Ireland?

Yes — we deliver across Ireland and the EU, with scooters sent boxed and needing only minimal setup. In Dublin, we can also deliver your scooter fully assembled and ready to ride as a paid option — just ask.
