Bike to Work Scheme — FAQs

What is the Bike to Work Scheme?

It is a Government of Ireland tax incentive, also known as the Cycle to Work Scheme. Your employer buys the bike for you and recovers the cost from your gross salary, before income tax, PRSI and USC are taken. Read our full guide to how the Bike to Work Scheme works.

How much can I spend on an electric bike?

The tax-free limit is €1,500 for an electric bike and €3,000 for an electric cargo bike (€1,250 for a conventional bike). You can choose a bike that costs more and pay the balance yourself — the relief applies up to the limit.

How much will I save?

Between 27% and 52%, depending on your tax rate. A €1,000 e-bike can work out around €480 for a higher-rate taxpayer. Use our Bike to Work Savings Calculator to see your exact cost.

How do I apply through Inner City Scooters?

Pick your e-bike, then complete our Bike to Work application form with your employer's details. We prepare the invoice for your employer, and once it is paid your bike is ready to collect or deliver. Your employer must agree to run the scheme.

How often can I use the scheme?

Once every four years, counted by tax year. The four-year clock restarts in the calendar year after your last scheme purchase.

Are these electric bikes road legal in Ireland?

Yes. Every bike in this collection is a pedelec — pedal assist up to 25 km/h with a 250W motor — so no licence, tax or insurance is needed to ride it on Irish roads.

Can I test ride before I apply?

Yes. Our showroom is at Unit 19B, Fashion City, Dublin 24 (D24 YT68), where the range is on display and you can test ride before you apply.

How is my bike delivered?

Bikes are sent boxed and need only minimal home setup, with delivery across Ireland and the EU. In Dublin, we can also deliver your e-bike fully assembled and ready to ride as a paid option — just ask.
