The Engwe Zip Folding Electric Bike is a lightweight, genuinely portable answer to city commuting. A 250W rear hub motor with 40Nm of torque delivers smooth, efficient assistance while staying fully EU compliant at 25 km/h. Engwe's patented three-second triple-fold collapses it to roughly the footprint of a 20-inch suitcase, which makes it genuinely practical for storage, transport and daily city use — ideal if you combine cycling with public transport or have limited space at home.

At 16.9 kg without the battery (19.4 kg with), the Zip is light enough to carry up stairs or onto a train. The 360Wh removable LG battery is rated to 120 km, and charges over USB-C PD 3.0 from the included 100W GaN charger — the same port also powers your phone or laptop. A torque sensor gives natural pedal assist and better battery efficiency, and Shimano 7-speed gearing, hydraulic disc brakes and a suspension seatpost keep the ride refined and responsive.

CE EN15194 certified by TÜV, Cycle to Work eligible, and it needs no assembly — unfold it and ride. Available in store and online at Inner City Scooters, Dublin.

Engwe Zip Lightweight Folding Electric Bike

The Engwe Zip is built around one idea: a bike you can actually take with you. Engwe's patented triple-fold design collapses it in about three seconds to roughly the footprint of a 20-inch suitcase — 62.5 × 37.4 × 67.3 cm — and at 16.9 kg without the battery it is light enough to carry up stairs or onto a train. A 250W rear hub motor with 40Nm and a torque sensor gives natural, EU-legal assist to 25 km/h, and the 360Wh LG battery is rated to 120 km. It charges over USB-C PD 3.0 from a 100W GaN charger — and will charge your phone or laptop back. Hydraulic disc brakes, Shimano 7-speed, a suspension seatpost and StVZO-compliant lights. CE EN15194 certified by TÜV, Cycle to Work eligible, and in stock at Inner City Scooters, Dublin.

Made for Daily Transportation

Your Day, Uninterrupted

Portable · Capable · Comfortable · Enjoyable. City mobility usually comes with a trade-off — public transport is crowded and inflexible, traditional bikes are bulky and hard to store, and most folding bikes feel limiting once you are off the road. The Zip is designed to move with you rather than around you.

Fold It. Carry It. Ride It.

Urban Commuting

Ride when it is needed, fold and carry when it is not. No waiting for a bus, no squeezing onto a packed carriage.

4 + 2 Bike Camping

Three Zips fit easily in a car boot — genuinely three, not a marketing three. Ideal for short getaways and weekend rides.

Luggage-Sized When Folded

Folded, it takes about the floor space of a 20-inch suitcase. It stands on its own and stays out of the way.

Made to be Carried

Why Portability Actually Matters

Most folding e-bikes fold but are still too heavy to lift. At 16.9 kg without the battery and 19.4 kg with it, the Zip is one you can genuinely carry up the stairs, into a lift or onto a train.

The three-second fold, in detail

  • Design Engwe's exclusive patented triple-fold with a single-sided front fork
  • Time About three seconds, one continuous motion
  • Folded size 62.5 × 37.4 × 67.3 cm — roughly a 20-inch suitcase
  • Weight 16.9 kg without battery, 19.4 kg with
  • Stability The single-sided fork keeps it rigid and safe when ridden, not just when folded
  • Storage Stands unaided under a desk, behind a door or under a bed

Power You Can Take With You

Engwe Zip battery charging a laptop over USB-C PD at a cafe table

USB-C PD 3.0, Both Ways

The battery comes out in a portable case — so it is not sitting on the street waiting to be stolen — and it charges over USB-C PD 3.0 from the included 100W GaN charger. It also discharges over the same port, so it will top up your phone or laptop while you work.

No Charging Anxiety

120 km From a 360Wh LG Battery

Engwe's real-world figures are 120 km at PAS 1, 85 km at PAS 2 and 60 km at PAS 3. Genuine LG cells with built-in BMS protection — a lot of range from a small, light pack.

Designed for City Riding Comfort

Two riders on Engwe Zip electric bikes on cobbled city streets

Torque Sensor, Suspension Seatpost, Wider Tyres

A torque sensor for natural assist, a suspension seatpost for the bumps, and 16" × 1.95" e-bike-specific urban tyres — wider than a standard 16" tyre, which is what makes a small-wheeled bike feel stable rather than twitchy.

Balanced Power, Effortless Control

Engwe Zip 250W rear hub motor giving balanced weight distribution

Rear Hub, Not Front Hub

The 250W motor sits in the rear wheel, so the weight is balanced between your hands and the saddle. Front-hub folders pull under power and wash out on wet corners; this does not.

Engwe Zip riders handling varied city terrain with 40Nm torque and Shimano 7-speed

Ready for Various City Terrain

40Nm of responsive torque and a Shimano Tourney 7-speed drivetrain with an 11–28T cassette. From flat streets to gentle slopes, the power shifts smoothly and the ride stays steady.

FAQ about the Engwe Zip

Is the Engwe Zip road-legal in Ireland?
Yes. With a 250W rated motor, torque-sensor pedal assist and assistance cutting off at 25 km/h it meets the EU pedelec (EPAC) standard and carries CE EN15194 certification by TÜV — so in Ireland it is treated like a bicycle, with no tax, insurance or licence required. Its lights meet the German StVZO standard, which is stricter than anything required here.
Is it eligible for the Cycle to Work scheme?
Yes. As a CE EN15194 pedelec the Zip qualifies for Ireland's Cycle to Work / Bike to Work scheme, so you can buy it through your employer from gross salary. Ask your employer to set the purchase up with us and we will issue the invoice they need.
Can I really take it on the DART or the Luas?
Folded it is 62.5 × 37.4 × 67.3 cm and 19.4 kg with the battery in, which is well within what folding bikes are normally permitted at. Folded bikes are generally accepted on Irish public transport where full-size bikes are not, but operator rules change — check the current policy for the service you use.
Does it really charge my phone and laptop?
Yes. The battery uses a USB-C PD 3.0 port that works in both directions, so the same port that charges the bike from its 100W GaN charger will also power a phone or laptop. The battery comes out in a portable case, so you can take it with you rather than leave it on the bike.
What range will I get in Irish conditions?
Engwe's own real-world figures are 120 km at PAS 1, 85 km at PAS 2 and 60 km at PAS 3. Irish hills, wind, rain and cold will pull that down, so plan on roughly 40–80 km depending on how much assist you use. For a 360Wh pack on a 19 kg bike, that is strong.
Is a 16" wheel not too small to be stable?
It would be on a standard 16" tyre. The Zip uses a 1.95" e-bike-specific tyre, which is noticeably wider than a typical 16" tyre and puts more rubber on the road — that plus the suspension seatpost is what makes it feel planted rather than twitchy. Come and ride one before you decide.
Will it fit my height, and how much can it carry?
Engwe rates it for riders from 155 cm to 190 cm, with a 43.8 cm standover and a 10-level adjustable suspension seatpost giving 95–105 cm saddle height. Maximum payload is 120 kg including rider and luggage.
Does it need assembly, and can you service it in Dublin?
No assembly — it arrives ready to unfold and ride, which is unusual for an e-bike and genuinely true here. Our Dublin workshop services and repairs Engwe e-bikes and stocks common spare parts, and instalment options are available at checkout.
