Engwe Engine X Full-Suspension Folding Fat Tyre Electric Bike

The Engwe Engine X is a full-suspension folding fat tyre electric bike built to handle whatever Ireland puts under the wheels. A 250W brushless hub motor with 55Nm of torque assists to the road-legal 25km/h EU limit, and a removable 48V 13Ah (624Wh) battery is rated at up to 120km in pedal assist. Front fork and mid-frame shock work with 20" x 4.0" fat tyres to take the sting out of broken tarmac and forest track, a Shimano 7-speed drivetrain and 160mm disc brakes keep it simple to live with, and cruise control makes long flat runs easy on the hands. It is a pedal-assist pedelec with no throttle, so there is no grey area about riding it on Irish roads. Available in Kenshi Black, White and Red at Inner City Scooters, Dublin.

A Trustworthy Companion, as Strong as a Tank

Full suspension, fat tyres and a folding 6061 aluminium frame, in a bike that stays a proper EU pedelec for Irish roads, greenways and cycle lanes.

Engwe Engine X 250W brushless hub motor with 55Nm torque

Reliable Power, Exceptional Torque

A 250W brushless hub motor producing 55Nm, which is what you feel pulling away from a junction or holding speed on a drag. Gradients of up to 10 degrees are handled comfortably, and assistance cuts off at 25km/h to keep the Engine X EU-compliant.

Engwe Engine X range comparison, up to 120km in pedal assist mode

Goodbye to Range Anxiety

Engwe rates the removable 48V 13Ah pack at up to 120km in pedal-assist mode. It lifts out with a key for indoor charging and takes around 6.5 hours to fill. Real-world range depends on rider weight, assist level, hills, wind and temperature, so treat 120km as best case.

Engwe Engine X full suspension and fat tyres on rough ground

Suspension and Fat Tyres, Working Together

The shock-absorbing front fork and mid-frame rear shock give the Engine X full suspension, and the 20" x 4.0" fat tyres absorb what is left. Between them you get control and comfort on gravel, forest track and the sort of patched road surface that is normal here.

Engwe Engine X ridden across mountain, forest and city settings

Tackle Any Terrain

Mountain, forest or city centre, the Engine X does not need a change of tyre or a change of plan. Fold it into the boot, drive to the start of the ride, and unfold it there.

Built Around the Details

Engwe Engine X aluminium shock-absorbing front fork with mechanical lock

Lockable Front Fork

An aluminium shock-absorbing fork with a mechanical lock: open for rough ground, locked out for efficient road pedalling.

Engwe Engine X mid-frame rear suspension shock absorber

Mid-Frame Rear Shock

A mid-mounted rear shock completes the full-suspension setup, keeping the back wheel planted where a hardtail would skip.

Engwe Engine X LED rear light with integrated brake light

LED Rear Light with Brake Light

The rear light brightens when you brake, so traffic behind gets the same signal it would from a car. A real safety gain on dark evenings.

Engwe Engine X removable battery key lock

Key-Locked Removable Battery

The 624Wh pack sits inside the frame and comes out with a key, so you can charge indoors and leave nothing worth taking on the bike.

Engwe Engine X semi-aluminium folding pedals with reflectors

Folding Pedals with Reflectors

Semi-aluminium folding pedals with built-in reflectors, so they fold flat with the bike and still meet the basics for road use.

Engwe Engine X brake lever and handlebar control

Cruise Control

Hold a steady assist level without constant input, which makes a long flat run along a greenway noticeably easier on the hands and wrists.

Engwe Engine X 6061 aluminium alloy folding frame

6061 Aluminium Folding Frame

A 6061 aluminium alloy frame that folds down to 104 x 55 x 84cm. At 31.7kg it is a two-handed lift, and taking the battery out first makes loading it into a car a good deal easier.

FAQ about the Engwe Engine X Electric Bike

Is the Engine X road-legal in Ireland?
Yes, without any caveats. The motor is rated at 250W, assistance cuts off at 25km/h, and there is no throttle fitted, so it meets the EU pedelec (EPAC) standard cleanly and is treated like a bicycle in Ireland. No tax, no insurance, no licence. Because it is pedal-assist only, there is none of the grey area that comes with throttle-equipped e-bikes.
What is the real-world range?
Engwe rates the 48V 13Ah (624Wh) battery at up to 120km in pedal-assist mode. In everyday Irish riding expect roughly 55km to 90km depending on rider weight, assist level, hills, headwind, tyre pressure and temperature. Cold weather and high assist levels cost the most range.
How long does it take to charge?
About 6.5 hours from empty with the supplied charger. The battery is built into the frame and lifts out with a key, so you can charge it indoors rather than leaving the bike plugged in outside. Partial top-ups are fine at any time.
Is it really full suspension?
Yes. There is a shock-absorbing front fork with a mechanical lockout and a mid-frame rear shock, so both wheels are sprung. On a folding fat-tyre bike at this price that is unusual, and it is the main reason the Engine X rides better than a hardtail on broken surfaces.
How small does it fold, and how heavy is it?
Folded it measures 104 x 55 x 84cm, and the bike weighs 31.7kg. That fits most estate car and SUV boots and campers. It is a two-handed lift, and removing the battery first makes it noticeably easier.
Can I ride it in the rain?
Yes. The Engine X is rated IPX4 against splashing water, which covers normal Irish rain and wet roads. Avoid submerging the bike or pressure-washing the motor, battery contacts and connectors, and dry the chain and rotors after a wet ride.
Will it fit my height?
Engwe quotes a rider height range of 5'4" to 6'2", roughly 163cm to 188cm. Saddle height adjusts from 86cm to 102cm and the handlebars from 120cm to 130cm. Standover height is 69cm and payload capacity is 150kg including rider and luggage.
What does the cruise control actually do?
It holds a steady level of assistance without you having to keep adjusting, which takes the strain off your hands and wrists on a long flat run. It is not a substitute for pedalling: assistance still cuts off at 25km/h and still requires you to pedal.
Are the colours different in any way?
No. Kenshi Black, White and Red are the same bike with a different finish, with identical motor, battery, brakes and suspension.
Does it come assembled, and how much work is involved?
It arrives largely assembled. You will normally unfold the frame and handlebars, fit the pedals, then check the brakes and gears. The assembly tool kit and an English manual are in the box. Our Dublin workshop can also build and safety-check the bike for you before collection.
Is the Engine X eligible for the Bike to Work scheme?
Yes. It is a pedelec e-bike and qualifies under the Irish Cycle to Work scheme through Inner City Scooters. Get in touch before you order and we will issue the quotation your employer needs.
Do you deliver, and what warranty comes with it?
Inner City Scooters ships the Engine X across Ireland and the EU, with tracking as soon as the order is dispatched. In-stock bikes usually arrive within a few working days in Ireland. The bike comes with a manufacturer warranty, and as a Dublin-based store we handle parts, servicing and warranty claims directly rather than sending you overseas.
