EP-2 3.0 Boost overview
Engwe calls the EP-2 3.0 Boost its most powerful upgrade yet. The new 48V hub motor stays within the EU 250W rated limit but delivers 75Nm of torque with Boost engaged, so steep Dublin hills, headwinds and loaded-up rear racks feel far easier than on a standard 250W bike. Power is metered by a torque sensor rather than a cadence sensor, so assistance matches how hard you press the pedals for a smooth, natural ride from the first pedal stroke.
Around that motor sits a magnesium alloy step-through folding frame with an integrated, removable battery, a hydraulic lockout front fork with 50 mm of travel, hydraulic dual-piston disc brakes with 180 mm rotors, Shimano 7-speed gearing and 20 x 4.0 inch fat tyres with a 3 mm anti-puncture layer.

Boost button for hills
Press Boost while pedalling and the motor delivers its full 75Nm for climbs and starts from the lights. It is pedal assist only: Boost adds torque while you pedal and never drives the bike on its own.
Torque sensor, five assist levels
The torque sensor reads your pedal pressure and responds instantly, with five pedal assist levels from gentle PAS 1 for maximum range up to PAS 5 for maximum help.
Hydraulic brakes and lockout fork
Dual-piston hydraulic disc brakes with 180 mm rotors front and rear give strong, progressive stopping, while the hydraulic fork with 50 mm travel and adjustable lockout takes the sting out of potholes and gravel.
Engwe app over Bluetooth
The 3.5 inch colour LCD display pairs with the Engwe app by Bluetooth so you can check ride data, battery and bike status, and security features from your phone.
All-terrain fat tyres
20 x 4.0 inch urban hybrid fat tyres with a 3 mm anti-puncture layer grip on tarmac, gravel paths, grass and sand, and soak up rough surfaces.
Ready to ride out of the box
Front and rear fenders, a rear rack, kickstand, a 30 lux LED headlight with integrated e-horn and a rear light with brake function all come fitted as standard.

Range, battery and charging
The integrated 48V 13.5Ah (648Wh) battery uses 21700 cells with BMS protection. Engwe quotes a real-world range of 120 km on PAS 1, 100 km on PAS 3 and 80 km on PAS 5, tested with a 75 kg rider at 25°C on flat roads. Expect less in Irish winter temperatures, on hills or with a heavier load. The included 54.6V 4A fast charger takes it from empty to full in about 3.5 hours, and the battery lifts out of the frame so you can charge it indoors.

Size, fit and folding
The EP-2 3.0 Boost suits riders from 165 cm to 190 cm tall, with a 10-position quick-release seat post giving a seat height of 88 to 104 cm and a handlebar height of 126 to 135 cm. The step-through frame makes it easy to get on and off, and it carries a maximum load of 150 kg.
The frame and stem fold down to 97 x 53 x 81 cm, small enough for most car boots, a hallway or an office corner. Unfolded it is 166 cm long with a 110 cm wheelbase. At 32.3 kg it is a solid, stable bike rather than a lightweight one, so most riders will roll it rather than carry it.
Is the EP-2 3.0 Boost road legal in Ireland?
Yes. The EP-2 3.0 Boost is an EU pedelec (EPAC) certified to CE EN15194 by TÜV. It has a 250W rated motor, assistance cuts out at 25 km/h and it is pedal assist only, with no throttle. That means it is treated like a normal bicycle in Ireland: no road tax, insurance or licence is needed, and you can ride it on roads and cycle lanes. A helmet and lights are strongly recommended.
Fitting an aftermarket throttle kit or unlocking the speed limit takes the bike outside the EU pedelec rules and it would no longer be road legal. The EP-2 3.0 Boost is also eligible for the Bike to Work scheme.

Is the Engwe EP-2 3.0 Boost road legal in Ireland?
