Engwe EP-2 Boost Folding Fat Tyre Electric Bike

The Engwe EP-2 Boost is the Boost-button version of Engwe's best-selling folding fat-tyre bike. A 250W EU-standard rear hub motor delivers 55Nm on demand, controlled by a torque sensor that reads your pedalling effort rather than switching on in steps. Assistance cuts off at 25 km/h, so it is a road-legal pedelec in Ireland. A 624Wh (48V 13Ah) removable battery gives up to 120 km, 180mm disc brakes front and rear handle the stopping, and 20" × 4.0" fat tyres on one-piece wheels take tarmac, gravel, sand and dirt in their stride. Folds to 99 × 55 × 75 cm, carries 150 kg, and comes with a rear rack and mudguards fitted. Cycle to Work eligible, from Inner City Scooters, Dublin.

Your Power Uphill

Engwe EP-2 Boost climbing a hill with 55Nm torque from its 250W EU motor at 25 km/h

EU-Compliant Boost Power

55Nm of maximum boost torque, 250W of EU-standard rated output and a 25 km/h assistance cut-off. The Boost button changes how hard the motor pulls, not how fast you can go — which is exactly why the bike stays a legal pedelec.

Boost Unleashes 55Nm of Power

Rider pressing the illuminated Boost button on the Engwe EP-2 Boost handlebar

Press for an Instant Surge

The illuminated Boost button sits under your thumb. Press it and the motor gives you everything it has — for a hill start, a loaded pull-away or a climb that would otherwise need a gear change.

How the Boost button works

  • Action Press for an instant power surge; release and assistance returns to your PAS level
  • Torque Up to 55Nm, for hills, loads and standing starts
  • Motor 250W rated rear hub, EU standard output
  • Sensor Torque sensor reads how hard you pedal, not just that you are pedalling
  • Climbing Rated to 10° gradients
  • Cut-off Assistance stops at 25 km/h, as required in Ireland and the EU

Smart for a Smoother Ride

Engwe EP-2 Boost torque sensor delivering smooth pedal assist on a park path

Torque Sensor, Not a Cadence Switch

The torque sensor measures how hard you are actually pushing and matches the motor to it. The result is assistance that feels like your own legs on a good day, rather than the on-off surge of a cheaper cadence sensor.

Your Reliable Cargo Partner

Engwe EP-2 Boost loaded for cargo with rear rack and mudguards

180mm Brakes, Rear Rack, Mudguards

Built for urban delivery work as much as commuting: upgraded 180mm discs for shorter stops under load, a rear rack rated to 25 kg and full mudguards fitted as standard. Total capacity is 150 kg.

Go Further, Explore More

Engwe EP-2 Boost 120km range from its 624Wh battery

120 km on a Single Charge

The 48V 13Ah (624Wh) pack is rated at 120 km in PAS 1 — tested with a 75 kg rider on flat road at 25°C. It lifts out of the frame for charging indoors.

Easily Conquer Every Road

Engwe EP-2 Boost 20 by 4.0 inch fat tyres on asphalt, sand, gravel and dirt

20 × 4.0" Tyres for Every Surface

Asphalt, sand, gravel, dirt — the fat tyres float over surfaces that would stop a commuter bike, and the front suspension takes the rest.

Engwe EP-2 Boost one-piece wheels for all-terrain reliability

One-Piece Wheels

Cast one-piece wheels instead of spoked rims — nothing to true, nothing to snap, and no spoke maintenance on a bike that gets ridden hard and loaded heavy.

Information at a Glance

Engwe EP-2 Boost integrated LCD display and handlebar cockpit

Integrated LCD Display

Real-time speed, battery level and mileage on a centrally mounted LCD, with the Boost button and assist controls within thumb reach either side.

Engineered for Performance and Comfort

Engwe EP-2 Boost 180mm disc brake and rotor

180mm Disc Brakes

Stronger stopping force and shorter braking distances than the 160mm discs on the standard EP-2 — worth having on a 30 kg bike carrying a load.

Engwe EP-2 Boost front suspension fork above the fat front tyre

Lockable Front Suspension

The front fork soaks up shocks on uneven surfaces and long distances, and locks out when you want every watt going forward on smooth tarmac.

Engwe EP-2 Boost removable 48V 13Ah battery sliding out of the frame

Removable Battery

The 624Wh pack lifts out for charging at home or at the desk — handy if you park outside, and it means a spare can keep you going all day.

Engwe EP-2 Boost Shimano 7-speed drivetrain

Shimano 7-Speed

Seven gears for smooth pedalling, easier hill climbs and sensible speed control whatever the road is doing.

Engwe EP-2 Boost sturdy rear rack rated to 25kg

25 kg Rear Rack

The rack is fitted as standard and rated to 25 kg — enough for deliveries, a big shop or panniers for a weekend away.

Engwe EP-2 Boost rear light and automatic brake light on the rack

Automatic Brake Light

The rear light brightens automatically when you brake — a real advantage in Dublin traffic and on dark winter evenings.

Compact Foldability

Engwe EP-2 Boost compact foldable frame folded down

Folds to 99 × 55 × 75 cm

The frame and stem both fold, so the bike goes in a car boot, a camper or a hallway. At 30 kg it is a solid lift, but it rolls on its folded wheels.

FAQ about the Engwe EP-2 Boost

Is the EP-2 Boost road-legal in Ireland?
Yes. It has a 250W rated motor, torque-sensor pedal assist and assistance that cuts off at 25 km/h, which meets the EU pedelec (EPAC) standard — so in Ireland it is treated like a bicycle, with no tax, insurance or licence required. Engwe's own marketing carries a "250W EU Standard" badge on this model. The Boost button gives more torque, not more speed.
Is it eligible for the Cycle to Work scheme?
Yes. As a road-legal pedelec the EP-2 Boost qualifies for Ireland's Cycle to Work / Bike to Work scheme, so you can buy it through your employer from gross salary. Ask your employer to set the purchase up with us and we will issue the invoice they need.
What is the difference between the EP-2 Boost and the EP-2 Pro?
The Boost adds the Boost button and a torque sensor, and upgrades the brakes from 160mm to 180mm discs. Both are 250W EU pedelecs on 20" × 4.0" fat tyres with Shimano 7-speed. In practice the Boost feels considerably more natural to pedal and stops harder under load — it is the one to have if you carry weight or ride hills.
What range will I actually get in Ireland?
The 120 km figure is PAS 1 with a 75 kg rider on flat road at 25°C. In real Irish riding — hills, headwinds, rain, higher assist levels and cargo — expect roughly 45–80 km. A 30 kg fat-tyre bike uses more energy than a light commuter, so plan accordingly.
How much does it weigh, and does it really fold?
It weighs 30 kg and folds to 99 × 55 × 75 cm — frame and stem both fold. That fits most car boots and a hallway, but at 30 kg it is a proper two-handed lift, so it is better suited to rolling into a lift than carrying up stairs.
Can it carry cargo or do deliveries?
Yes — it is built for it. The rear rack is rated to 25 kg, total load capacity is 150 kg, the 180mm discs are there specifically to cope with braking under load, and full mudguards come fitted. Plenty of Dublin delivery riders use this exact bike.
Will it fit my height?
Engwe rates the frame for riders from 165 cm to 190 cm, with a 34.5 cm standover, 84–102 cm saddle height and an adjustable handlebar between 118 and 130 cm. If you are under 165 cm, come in and sit on one before ordering.
Can I ride it in the rain, and can you service it in Dublin?
Engwe does not publish a formal IP rating for the EP-2 Boost, so treat it as rain-resistant rather than waterproof: fine in Irish weather, but don't submerge it or jet-wash it, and dry the battery contacts after a soaking. Our Dublin workshop services and repairs Engwe e-bikes and stocks common spare parts, and instalment options are available at checkout.
