FAQ about the Engwe M1 Dual Battery
Is the Engwe M1 road-legal in Ireland?
The M1's 250W motor with pedal-assist cutting off at 25 km/h meets the EU pedelec (EPAC/EN15194) standard, so ridden in pedal-assist it is treated like a regular bicycle in Ireland — no tax, insurance or licence required. The M1 also has a throttle; using a throttle places an e-bike outside the pedelec definition and into a legal grey area, so we recommend pedal-assist mode on public roads and keeping throttle use to private land.
How far can it really go on a charge?
Up to 170 km is the maximum (lowest assist). In everyday Irish conditions expect roughly 90–170 km depending on assist level, terrain, rider weight and weather. The twin battery setup is what makes those long distances possible — at the cost of extra weight.
How long do the dual batteries take to charge?
Around 6–8 hours to fully charge both 48V batteries (1373Wh combined). Both packs are removable, so you can charge them indoors away from the bike.
How heavy is it, and can I carry it upstairs?
The M1 weighs around 43 kg with both batteries fitted, so it's heavier than a typical e-bike. Removing the batteries lightens it for lifting, but it's best stored at ground level where possible.
Can I ride it in the rain?
Yes. The M1 carries an IPX4 splash-resistance rating, so it handles Irish rain and wet roads. Avoid submerging it or jet-washing it directly, and dry the contacts if it gets very wet.
It has a dual seat — can I carry a passenger?
The M1 has a roomy seat and a 150 kg maximum load. Carrying a passenger on an e-bike on Irish public roads can be restricted, so please check current local rules before doing so; the generous seat and load rating are there primarily for comfort and cargo.
Can I buy it through the Bike to Work scheme or in instalments?
Yes — the M1 is eligible for the Bike to Work scheme, and instalment payment options are available at checkout. Get in touch if you'd like help with a Bike to Work application. (Please confirm current scheme and finance details with our team.)
What about delivery, warranty and servicing in Dublin?
We offer fast delivery across Ireland (typically 2–5 working days) and the bike can be bought in-store or online. It comes with a manufacturer warranty, and our Dublin store provides in-house servicing and repairs. (Delivery times, warranty length and service terms are indicative — please confirm with Inner City Scooters.)
