The Engwe M1 Dual Battery is a moped-styled electric bike built around a 48V 250W brushless motor producing 65Nm of torque, giving it genuine hill-climbing ability while staying EN15194 certified and limited to 25km/h. Power comes from a dual-battery system pairing a 48V 15.6Ah pack with a 48V 13Ah pack for a combined 28.6Ah and 1373Wh, enough for up to 170km of range in pedal assist mode 1. Both packs are removable lithium-ion and recharge in 6 to 8 hours.

Ride quality comes from a full double suspension system with front and rear travel, 160mm hydraulic disc brakes front and rear, and 20 x 4.0in noiseless fat tyres that stay planted on city streets, gravel and light off-road trails alike. A Shimano 7-speed drivetrain handles gradients and cruising speeds, while the LCD colour display keeps speed, battery level and trip data clearly readable in any light.

The high carbon steel frame supports a 150kg maximum load and carries a roomy dual seat designed to take two riders in comfort. Front and rear lights, a brake light and turn signals are fitted as standard for safe commuting after dark. The bike weighs 43kg with both batteries and suits riders from 160cm to 190cm.

Fit Your Routine, and the Fun

Engwe M1 Dual Battery carrying two riders on its long dual seat

Built for Two

The M1's long, padded twin seat and 150 kg payload mean it carries a passenger comfortably — rare on an e-bike, and the reason the M1 reads more moped than bicycle.

Push Your Limits — 1,373Wh Across Two Batteries

Engwe M1 Dual Battery 15.6Ah plus 13Ah batteries giving 1373Wh and up to 170km range

170 km on a Charge

A 48V 15.6Ah pack and a 48V 13Ah pack together hold 1,373Wh. Engwe's test returned 170 km at PAS 1 with a 75 kg rider and no extra load — against 90 km for the single-battery M1.

What the two packs give you

  • Pack 1 48V 15.6Ah lithium-ion, in the main frame position
  • Pack 2 48V 13Ah lithium-ion, mounted in the frame triangle
  • Total 28.6Ah / 1,373Wh
  • Range Up to 170 km at PAS 1 (90 km on the single-battery model)
  • Charging About 6–8 hours; each pack is lockable and removable
  • Weight 43 kg with both packs fitted

Dominate Every Incline

Engwe M1 Dual Battery 250W EU-legal motor with 65Nm of torque climbing a hill

250W EU-Legal Output, 65Nm of Torque

65Nm is a lot of pull for a 250W rated motor, and it shows on Dublin's steeper climbs and on loaded starts. Assistance is speed-sensor controlled across the assist levels and cuts out at 25 km/h, as the EU pedelec rules require.

Maximum Safety in Every Ride

Engwe M1 Dual Battery headlight, rear light, turn signals and hydraulic disc brakes

Turn Signals, Brake Light, Hydraulic Brakes

Front and rear lights, indicators and a brake light that fires when you pull the lever — genuinely useful in Dublin traffic. Stopping is handled by 160mm hydraulic disc brakes front and rear, which hold their bite in the wet.

Unleash Your Potential on Any Path

20" × 4.0" Fat Tyres, Double Suspension

Wide, quiet fat tyres plus front and rear suspension give grip and comfort on tarmac, tow paths, gravel and sand alike.

FAQ about the Engwe M1 Dual Battery

Is the Engwe M1 road-legal in Ireland?
Yes — the version we supply is the EU build. It has a 250W rated motor with assistance cutting off at 25 km/h and carries EN15194 certification, which makes it a pedelec: treated like a bicycle in Ireland, with no tax, insurance or licence required. It looks like a moped, but legally it is a bicycle. Note that Engwe also sells an "International Version" of the M1 that is not EU-compliant — that is not what we stock.
Is it eligible for the Cycle to Work scheme?
Yes. As an EN15194-certified pedelec the M1 Dual Battery qualifies for Ireland's Cycle to Work / Bike to Work scheme, so you can buy it through your employer from gross salary. Ask your employer to set the purchase up with us and we will issue the invoice they need.
What is the real difference between the dual and single battery M1?
Range, mostly. The single-battery M1 carries a 48V 15.6Ah pack and is rated at 90 km. The dual-battery adds a second 48V 13Ah pack in the frame triangle for 1,373Wh total and a rated 170 km. It also adds about 3.5 kg — 43 kg rather than 39.5 kg. If you do long runs or want to go a full week between charges, the dual is worth it.
What range will I actually get in Ireland?
The 170 km figure is PAS 1 with a 75 kg rider on flat ground in good conditions. In real Irish riding — hills, wind, rain, higher assist, a passenger or cargo — expect roughly 80–120 km from both packs. Still a lot: most riders charge once a week.
Can it really carry two people?
The long twin seat is built for it and the total payload is 150 kg, which covers two average adults. Be aware that carrying a passenger will cut your range substantially and that the rules on carrying a passenger on a bicycle in Ireland are strict — it is legal only on a bike constructed or adapted for it.
How long do both batteries take to charge?
About 6–8 hours for the pair. Both packs lock to the frame and lift out, so you can bring them indoors and charge them separately — handy if you park outside or in a shed.
Can I ride it in the rain?
Yes — it is built for everyday weather and the hydraulic disc brakes are a real advantage in the Irish wet. Engwe does not publish a formal IP rating for the M1, so treat it as rain-resistant rather than waterproof: don't submerge it or jet-wash it, and dry the battery contacts after a soaking.
What warranty is there, and can you service it in Dublin?
One year against manufacturing defects as standard, with a two-year extension available. Our Dublin workshop services and repairs Engwe e-bikes and stocks common spare parts, and instalment options are available at checkout. Delivery covers Ireland and the EU.
