Engwe L20 Boost Step-Through Fat Tyre Electric Bike
The Engwe L20 Boost is a step-through fat tyre electric bike built around the two things that actually matter on an Irish commute: getting on and off easily, and having power in reserve when the road tips up. A 250W motor with a torque sensor gives natural pedal assist to the road-legal 25km/h limit, and a 75Nm boost button adds a short burst of extra torque for pulling away or climbing. The removable 48V 13Ah battery is rated at up to 126km, a front basket and 25kg rear rack come fitted, and a 43.3cm standover height means you step through rather than swing a leg over. There is no throttle, so its pedelec status is clean. Available in Kenshi Black, Sea Green and Burgundy at Inner City Scooters, Dublin.
Power Meets Comfort
A torque sensor for natural assist, a boost button for the hills, and a step-through frame that suits shorter riders, longer skirts and anyone who would rather not lift a leg over a saddle.
Effortless Power for Every Ride
Press the boost button and the motor delivers up to 75Nm for around a minute, then returns to normal assist. It is designed for exactly the moments you need it: pulling away from a junction, or a short steep pull that would otherwise have you out of the saddle.
Why the Boost Button Keeps It Legal
The boost button is an enhanced level of pedal assist, not a throttle. It only delivers power while you are pedalling, it runs for up to a minute and then needs pressing again, and it never gives continuous motor control independent of the pedals. That distinction is what keeps the L20 Boost a pedelec under EU and Irish rules.
Ultimate Riding Comfort
A 43.3cm standover height makes mounting and dismounting genuinely easy, the saddle adjusts from 82cm to 94cm, and the torque sensor reads your pedalling effort rather than just cadence, so assistance arrives smoothly rather than in a surge.
Ride Further Without Limits
Engwe rates the removable 48V 13Ah battery at up to 126km in assist level 1. It lifts out with a key for indoor charging and takes about 6.5 hours to fill. Real range depends on rider weight, assist level, hills, wind and temperature, so treat 126km as the best case.
Ride with Confidence and Safety
Front and rear LED lights are fitted as standard, and the rear light brightens when you brake so traffic behind gets a proper signal. 160mm mechanical disc brakes front and rear handle the stopping.
Built Around the Details
10kg Front Basket
Fitted as standard and mounted to the frame rather than the bars, so a full load does not affect the steering.
25kg Rear Rack
Takes panniers, a top box or a week's shopping. Between basket and rack the L20 Boost carries 35kg of cargo.
Colour LCD Display
Speed, distance, battery level and assist mode across five levels, all readable at a glance.
Front Suspension Fork
Around 50mm of travel to take the edge off kerbs, potholes and the state of most Irish side roads.
Shimano 7-Speed
A Shimano Tourney derailleur: reliable, familiar and cheap to service at any bike shop in the country.
20" x 4.0" Fat Tyres
Chaoyang fat tyres on alloy wheels: stable on wet cobbles, forgiving on gravel and towpaths.

Not Just for the Flat
Fat tyres, front suspension and the boost button together mean the L20 Boost handles a good deal more than a supermarket run. Towpaths, forest tracks and the climb home all stay comfortable.
